The Wandmaker's Guidebook
Learn the art of wandmaking from this ancient guidebook. It includes a blank wand and natural elements to make it your own.
Become a wandmaker's apprentice. This guidebook covers every aspect of making your own wand, from the type of wood to the powers that you can create with natural elements like sand, herbs, feathers and more. Your personal powers can be placed in the twist off handle. What kind of wand will you make?
Kit includes: 24 pp book with pull-out drawer; wooden wand with removable handle; 3 different feathers; 3 vials with different colored sand; vial of multi-colored stones.
The book is written by Coralis, the last of the Wand Masters, who is challenging the reader to take on the task of becoming an apprentice. Each spread is devoted to a separate discipline regarding the craft of wandmaking, including rules to follow, elements to use such as crystals and herbs, developing a workspace, and types of wood to use. Much of the well-researched information, as well as the short stories peppered throughout the book, is based on fact and contains elements of folklore and the natural sciences. In his final word to the apprentice, Coralis ends with a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson that summarizes the essence of the book: "What lies behind us and what lies before us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us."
The book contains a few features that make it unique. Envelopes that are bound to the page contain informative cards and letters. A section on astrology has two acetate overlays showing the constellations in both the northern and southern hemispheres. And a pull-out tray contains a wooden wand and materials that can be used to help personalize your wand. But it is the overall design of the book that catches the reader's attention. Once you pick it up, you're hooked!
The Wandmaker's Guidebook was selected as an American Library Association Quick Pick for Reluctant Readers under non-fiction in 2008.
